Modification of a Constitutive Model for Gassy Clay

Gassy clays containing large, discrete gas bubbles are widely spread in deposits shallow waters. The existence of may impair the original soil structure, resulting instability offshore foundations and occurrence submarine landslides. Although gassy clay was found to exhibit different undrained shear behaviors with variations initial pore water pressures volume fractions, more experimental studies theoretical interpretations relationship between effective confining pressure responses required. A series triaxial compression tests is conducted compare reconstituted saturated specimens at an 200, 400, or 600 kPa. An existing elastoplastic constitutive model based on critical state improved by updating its stress-dilatancy function yield surface. dilatancy equation proposed has potential quantify effect matrix. surfaces reproduced reasonably well optimizing expressions shape parameters under a variety pressures. developed can describe stress-strain both specimens.
